KidCon: The Ultimate Kid Convention

Slime making, obstacle courses, coding robots, balloon art and so much more made KidCon the number one place to be a kid! This is your official review guide of KidCon Chicago 2018. Take a ride with me as I share what the event was all about and what’s in store for 2019.

We kicked off Friday night and Saturday morning with Sensory Hour presented by Total Spectrum and Banz. We opened up the exhibitor hall one hour early for those kids who benefited from extra time to check everything out with a reduced amount of stimuli. Our sponsors at Banz provided little ones with Hear No Blare Earmuffs and See No Glare Sunglasses.

There were so many fun activities throughout the event to keep kids busy all day long! One area that kept creative juices flowing was Kamik’s #FreeYourPlay Zone. Here we saw kids thinking out of the box and creating who cities from recycled cardboard. There were hotels and schools and rocket ships, oh my!

For the younger kids, we had a Crawlers and Toddlers Kid Zone presented by Green Toys. Little ones got to explore all the posibilities here from being a farmer to hosting a tea party.

We saw lots of kids climb new heights at the Windy City Ninja‘s Zone. The fan favorite obstacle was the running wall where you ran as fast as you could and tried to touch the top. The line was never ending with many little ones completing the wall and then running back to the beginning to do it all over again. Whether they got to the top or not, you always heard proud parents cheering them on.

For those who are technically inclined, we had Codverse set up a Coding Corner where kids could learn to program robots, play STEM games or create video games! From early childhood and up, there was something for everyone to learn. Most children were just amazing in this area because technology is in their blood.

The most popular activity had to be making slime! Local Color Art brought tubs supplies for toddlers and teenagers to get their hands’ dirty mixing glue, colors and sparkles to make their very own goop. You could hear the oohhs, aahhs, and giggles as they squished and popped the entire day.

On Saturday, a fun and interactive Trolls performance by Stages Performing Arts kept the kids singing and dancing for hours! They sang along to some favorites like “Can’t Stop the Feeling” and “True Colors” while grooving with maracas and bubbles.

There were also some fun interactive sessions for kids like story time and yoga. These gave little ones the opportunity to sit down, relax, and calm their mind and bodies.

For those who wanted to do a little shopping, we had the exhibitor hall open all weekend. There were fun t-shirts from River Babe Threads and Fresh Apparel, bags by JuJuBe, Safari Ltd. toys, E-blox and so much more! Kids played with the items on display while parents shopped for the holidays.

What made this event so great was that not only were the kids having a ball, but the parents joined in on the excitement too. We saw parent after parent in the kid zones building box cities, making slime, taking pictures with the princesses, and just smiling.

KidCon was such a blast, we wish the fun never ended! There were so many more exciting opportunities that you will just have to see it for yourself. Stay tuned in early 2019 for our next locations and dates!
